Zathura (2005) might be one of the most underrated films of the year. It's rated PG, but there's a lot of sneaky material that could be taken a different way if you're sorta perverted like me.

Hey, what can I say? It gives me more to grin at. But that's a whole 'nother story.

...

This is a kind of theatre delight that makes you jump in your seat when defective robots come crashing through the house or people get locked in a cryosleep. I was so involved in the goings-on I started hissing at the screen to "don't do that!" or the like when trouble came about. Kids say (and do) the darndest things...

I was one of those rude people talking all throughout the movie (which is rare, mind you) - but so was my companion, and nobody shushed us. A few of them even chuckled at our commentary.

Aye, there were explosions and misfortunes all around, just like its predecessor, Jumanji (1995). But the two are incomparable, really. This film was much more focused on the two brothers playing and their rocky relationship. There's a twist toward the end that really grabbed me, something unexpected in a movie where I prided myself on calling the next mishap.

Tim Robbins played a very minor role, but a necessary one as the boys' father. As a matter of fact, even the characters that seemed insignificant tied the whole plot together in one way or another. The storyline itself is still tripping me up. Zathura was very well worth my $10.50 (ack), and I'm going to be watching for it on DVD.
