ccxciii (a bite out of crime)
This just goes to show you how out of the loop I am, even a month after being back: there's an alligator in Lake Machado.*

Oh, here. Have another article.

I was initially very shocked, but I'm sure stranger things have happened - especially in Harbor City, of all places. This is no more than a 20-minute sojourn from where I live; I feel compelled to take a little trip to Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park to see if I can find 'Reggie' with my very eyes. Although it's obvious the gator could pose many threats to residents in the area, I'm fairly sure this story's been given enough attention so that folks don't get too close (and perhaps spread the word in the process). People from across the country have been drawn to this creature, and there's already talk of where it might go should it ever be captured.

Wouldn't bother me if it wasn't, though. I think the people of Harbor City are keen enough to keep the situation under control if need be. Plus, there's a lot of fandom for the alligator - novelty T-shirts and even a blog that I'd read ten times over opposed to a livejournal dedicated to someone's cat or the like. (Which there are sadly too many of.)

A couple of upstarts in June apparently just gave Reggie the slip there. Clever, weren't they? Yeah, no one will notice a REPTILE SIX FEET LONG in the park. On the upside, however, the culprits have been caught - one of them including a past LAPD officer.

"Arresting officers found a whole reptile habitat at the former cop's suburban home, including three other alligators, desert tortoises and a rattlesnake, plus piranhas and six marijuana plants."

Imagine the plethora of pain he could've possibly unleashed besides the alligator alone. Want to meet a stoned piranha?

*thanks to perihelia for the awareness.

i think it was cuter when they called him "carlitos" because he would eat tortillas people would throw to him.

I'm sorry, but I have to say it.. I can't believe you just heard about Reggie. I get the Daily Breeze and everyday in the top corner it's like "Alligator Watch, Day 47: Still can't catch him."

They're so milking this thing for all it's worth. It's ridiculous.

It's news to me because I've only been back a month and didn't bother to keep up with southern Cal news while I was away.

You were right there at the park? Harbor College is just around the corner...and I missed you. Oh well.

Naw, I haven't gone yet. I'll let you know when I do though. Perhaps next week or the week after.
